Special Education
In her practice, Nicole Goodson has assisted families with special needs children in learning about the state and federal laws that affect their children. She has helped these families with their efforts to obtain services for their children under Article 7 of the Indiana Code, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA 2004) and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
In doing so, Ms. Goodson has attended case conference committee meetings with parents in order to create appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEPs). She has also assisted parents with due process hearings and answered questions that parents have about their children's rights.
Estate Planning
Ms. Goodson has assisted families with special needs children by creating estate planning documents that will adequately plan for the futures of all family members involved. Often, families with a special needs child require more detailed estate planning in order to preserve a child's ability to recieve Social Security Disability benefits and Medicaid. Ms. Goodson is happy to help each family find the solution that best fits their needs.
Guardianship
Ms. Goodson has assisted many families with guardianships for persons with special needs. This includes children who are about to turn 18 and are unable to make informed decisions, as well as adults who are unable to take care of their affairs due to age or illness.
Adoption
Ms. Goodson has assisted families with adoptions, including stepparent adoptions. She welcomes all inquiries about this happy occasion in a family’s life.
